The pier at Clacton-on-Sea

Looks like a wonderful place to spend a sunny summers day, doesn't it?
Clacton-on-Sea is relatively new (1871) seaside resort / town on the Tendring Peninsula, in Essex, England.
Clacton Pier opened on 27 July 1871 and was 160 yards in length and 4 yards wide. In 1893 the pier was lengthened to 1180ft (360m), not sure whether the picture here is before of after the extension.
