Picture of Chillon Castle - Château de Chillon

Photochrom named 'Chillon et la Dent du Midi'. It is a picture of the Chillon Castle (Château de Chillon) which is on the shore of Lake Geneva near Montreux, Switzerland. Although dating it seems to be a bit of problem, as it has grown from over a hundred different buildings over the years, it is likely that the first written record on the Castle dates from 1005.

And again a bit of trivia for the pub quiz:
Chillon Castle got part of its popularity thanks to Lord Byron, who wrote the poem The Prisoner Of Chillon (1816).

Photochrom #16660.
