Ballater

View of Ballater, a burgh in Aberdeenshire, north east Scotland with the river Dee in front of it.
The town developed into a Spa town in the late 18th century due to the Pananich Mineral Well and tourism was later fuelled by the railway that 'arrived' in 1866. Many of the (Victorian) buildings that gave the town its distinct look are still around today.
No more railway nowadays and I am not sure whether you can still use the well. But is has become a popular centre for outdoor activities (walking, cycling, canoeing).
