Ascent of the Mont Blanc
Bright and sunny, the Ascent of the Mont Blanc.
Two mountaineers climbing the icy slopes of the Mont Blanc. The Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the European Alps: 4,810m. She lies between the Aosta Valley in Italy and the Haute-Savoie in France.
The first recorded ascent was in 1786 by Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard, with Marie Paradis the first woman following in 1808.
Nowadays about 20,000 people attempt the ascent which is considered to be relatively easy, yet long. Unfortunately a few attempts every year go wrong and the Mont Blanc has claimed many victims over the years.
